When Dr. Newell is not caring for patients in the office, he enjoys spending as much time as possible in the outdoors with his wife, Valerie, his two sons, Tyler and Ben, and their springer spaniel, Tucker. His hobbies include skiing, mountain biking, boating, and fishing. He particularly enjoys fly-fishing and even makes most of his own flies. Through the years, "Coach" Newell has volunteered his time to youth ice hockey, in which both of his boys are avid participants.
